Now that the Harry Potter series has been capped in book form for a while and the film franchise is set to do the same with the upcoming Deathly Hallows, J.K. Rowling recently hinted at how long fans might have to wait to get a new installment. While at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, Rowling commented to the Washington Post (but I caught the story at Sci(y)fi(y)) that she might like to revisit the property “maybe 10 years from now.” In the meantime, however, she also stated when asked by a kid if she wants to continue writing more books that “Yes, I do, and I am,” Rowling said. “I’m quite sure in the not-too-distant future I will bring out another book.”
So that figures that maybe sometime around 2020, fans might get reintroduced to the world of wizards and muggles. It also figures that Hollywood will bend over backwards, sideways and various other kama sutra positions to accommodate Rowling to get the new story(ies) up on the screen, since 10 years is currently way too long to wait for a reboot / remake / regurgitation. Imagine how long the interval between originals and remakes will be by then? We’ll probably have day and date multiple releases by multiple filmmakers of the same property.
No doubt Daniel Radcliffe, fresh off his fourth marriage and fifth stint in rehab, with receding hairline and beer belly, will be looking for a career comeback after his disastrous naked musical version of Equus, directed by Rob Marshall, flopped at the box office and ruined his career sometime in 2013. Of course, the anti-aging process on film will probably be standard by then, so it may not even be an issue.
