Well it turns out that Warner Bros must have liked those test screenings of Clash of the Titans, because they’ve just confirmed that they will be releasing the film in both 2D and GOD-SMASHING 3D iterations.
Of course, it won’t be true 3D as it simply wasn’t shot for it, but it’s getting the 3D conversion that’s becoming quite popular. WB has also announced that the film is getting pushed back a week to an April 2nd release date.
“We are experienced and have been successful in the conversion of 2D to 3D going back to such hits as The Polar Express, select scenes in Superman Returns and the last two Harry Potter films,” says Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution, trying to sound hard like they’re trying not to cash in on Avatar. “We are confident in the constantly evolving 3D technology, and the results for Clash of the Titans will be presented onscreen with the highest-quality images available today. Based on our track record, we know that audiences are embracing the RealD and IMAX experiences, and we see many opportunities on our film slate to provide moviegoers with these great options at the multiplex.”
They’re not stopping with just Titans, either! Many of their other upcoming films like Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, Guardians of Ga’Hoole and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 will be getting the same treatment. (It’s a safe bet that the second part of Deathly Hallows will get it too.)
And the overindulgence of 3D films continue! Once again like in all media everyone looks at someone’s one-off success and tries to replicate it by pumping out as many similar products as they can, completely failing to realize what made that particular product special in the first place, beating it into the ground with product after product and wondering afterwards why people got sick of it. It’s called “Guitar Hero syndrome” in the gaming biz.
