Variety is reporting that Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs writer/directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are talking with Columbia Pictures to the direct a film adaptation of 21 Jump Street. It would be the duo’s first live-action feature.
You kids might have only heard about the show, which was one of FOX’s first hits, helping to launch Johnny Depp’s career. It was an annoying time to be in grammar school, as every damn girl in school couldn’t stop talking about him. (Better than the New Kids, I suppose…)
The film, as in the show, centers on a bunch of young-looking cops who are sent to work undercover in high schools to bust teenage hoodlums. The deal for the film was apparently guided by Jonah Hill and Mike Bacall. Hill will star in the film and executive produce, while Bacall wrote the script. Neal Moritz (I Am Legend) will produce.
Hill starring certainly will give the film a completely different feel than expected. Let’s just hope that they put him in Depp’s clothes and make him look appropriately hard.
