The LA Times recently reported that Breck Eisner has parted ways with the Creature From the Black Lagoon remake and jumped ship to another remake- that of David Cronenberg’s The Brood. It isn’t the only remake that Eisner’s involved with, as he has the remake of George Romero’s The Crazies coming out next year. Two remakes of two lesser films from some of the best genre filmmakers!
If you’ve never seen the original, it’s a heartwarming story of a mother who asexually reproduces a race of monsterous, murderous children that go out and kill on her whim.
There have been a few scripts for the remake floating around but they’re going with one Cory Goodman for the remake. I love the original despite its flaws, and am just scratching my head
over whether they’ll keep that twisted, twisted ending (really, one of
the main elements that makes the film work) or not.
Fun fact! The antagonists of The Brood were named one of our Forgotten Monsters of Filmland, but perhaps this new film will reignite people’s memories.
