A remake of The Crow has been slowly coming together for some months, with a script getting a bit of buzz in October. More recently, i09 spoke with producer Ryan Kavanaugh, who has his hand in a pretty enormous number of projects in development (including The Strangers 2, Piranha 3D, and Season of the Witch). Details are scant and vague at this point, but it’s clear there is a strong chance of this one coming together.
“The script is great. We’re very excited about it. The Crow is definitely going to happen, we’re just getting all the pieces together right now. It’s not officially greenlit, but it’s going to happen… I think in a couple months we could have the package together for sure.”
Kavanaugh makes sure to make both direct and oblique references to Batman while talking about story and casting (which may be “an actor you’ve heard of,” or it won’t), and clarified that this will be a relaunch rather than a continuation.
At the risk of jumping to the most cynical conclusion right away, I have to wonder what effect this previous weekend is going to have on the production. How much work would it be to inject some Twilight into a franchise that already had it’s greatest appeal with angsty 14-year-old girls? Will the production be able to endure the temptation of mining that clearly profitable tween well*?
If this doesn’t get fast tracked and re-railed as Twilight cash-in, the fervor will likely pass and have little effect, but there’s definitely an executive with a bright idea making some calls this week.
*Not gonna reword that.
