I personally hope that Morgan Freeman never stops making movies. When – which will hopefully be at least a couple of decades or more from now – he shuffles his mortal coil, I hope that the digitizing people’s brains into robot bodies or supercomputers or some shit is perfected and people can continue to enjoy his work for years afterward. The man tends to just class up any production he’s on. But it’s not class he’s looking to pull off in Dirty Old Men, his just announced potential next role for Warner Bros. In fact, it’s just the opposite.
The comedy revolves
around an aging playboy who finally meets the love of his life and
his best friend and wingman for the past 40 years (Freeman) who
does everything to break up the new couple. The tone is described
as similar to Wedding Crashers and The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Speculation in the article is that the studio would like a Bucket List re-teaming with Jack Nicholson. The script was penned as a spec by Josh Cagan (Bandslam)and Greg Coolidge, to which Peter Segal may direct. Coolidge recently sold a project titled Cockblocker with Seann William Scott and Topher Grace attached to Paramount.
In the meantime, Freeman is re-re-teaming with Clint Eastwood for Invictus as Nelson Mandela and also has Red upcoming with Bruce Willis. Hopefully there’s another turn as Lucius Fox in the offing as well.
