You ever get the feeling that Ridley Scott hates being bored? Like, despises it? Nevermind the fact that he has no less than 25 projects in various states of development on IMDB, but the man just refuses to slow down. I’m firmly of the belief that I’m going to be going to see his movies when I’m in a walker and hoping to make it to the bathroom in time. Hell, I was exhausted just watching Black Hawk Down. The guy’s almost twice my age and he shot the damn thing. So even with another Alien movie of some sort pending, Robin Hood and producing the A-Team on his plate, Sir Ridley apparently felt the need to branch into a little slavery of the modern kind.
And if one is going to traffic in homo sapiens, one might as well have an Oscar winner penning the project, as Steve Zaillian will re-team with him for a remake of the UK mini-series, Red Riding for Columbia. The original was a study of power and police corruption framed around
the investigation of the disappearance of several young girls. For the
pic, the setting will be transferred from Britain to the U.S. The project was based on four David Peace novels and totaled five hours. Scott and Zaillian are also in talks to produce along with Andrew Eaton of Revolutionary Films,
which produced the mini. Garrett Basch of Film Rites will be executive
producer.
No word if any of the actors will carry over, but more than likely they’ll start fresh with an American cast. In the meantime, Zaillian has Martin Scorsese’s I Hear You Paint Houses for Paramount. Scott’s probably riding a unicycle up Everest or some shit.
