Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes hasn’t played anywhere that I know of, but Warner Bros is so high on the film that they’ve already begun officially developing the sequel. But don’t get too excited – they’ve brought in the screenwriting team behind the scrapped Justice League: Mortal, Kieran and Michele Mulroney, to write part 2, which would feature the detective’s archnemesis, Moriarty.
But who would be Moriarty? The Hollywood Reporter hears that none other than Brad Pitt is in talks to play the role. What’s interesting about this is the following question: Isn’t it sort of early to be hiring anyone? And the answer is, no it’s not, if you’re going to do a quick reshoot to get Moriarty into the first Sherlock Holmes. A cameo of some sort. I’ve heard rumors of this but discounted them, as anyone high profile enough to earn the role would have been spotted on set during shooting – as Marvel learned with Nick Fury in Iron Man, you cannot keep secrets from us.
Of course the actual reality of a Sherlock Holmes 2 depends on how the first film opens this Christmas…
