Gus Van Sant’s next film will be Restless, a take on young love by new screenwriter Jason Lew that will be produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and his progeny Bryce Dallas Howard for Imagine Entertainment. And that’s pretty much all there is to this story at this point, because THR.com doesn’t have much more in the way of details on the project, which is being kept under wraps.
However, some background on the project is that the younger Howard is pals with Lew, as they were at NYU together and she brought it to her pops who, being taken with Lew’s perspective and
originality, wanted to further develop it for Imagine. This would be a reteaming by the elder Howard and Van Sant, who last worked together on the 1998 shot-for-shot remake of Psycho.
Some further background would be that Van Sant last directed Milk, a biopic of the slain San Francisco openly-gay Councilman, which won Sean Penn an unexpected second Oscar.
Some very background info is that Van Sant is from Louisville, KY, my hometown and current stomping grounds of one Troy Anderson.
Some completely unrelated info is that Louisville is also the home of the Cardinals and current basketball coach Rick Pitino was recently involved in a sex and extortion scandal stemming from an affair he had with some crazy bitch six years ago. But that Cards fans such as myself scarcely give a damn as long as Pitino keeps winning.
And on a very-loosely related note, Vince Lombardi once said, “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.” Know who played for Lombardi and won four championships with him? Paul Hornung. Know where Hornung’s from? That’s right, Louisville.
