After months of being known only as … Of the Dead, George Romero’s latest zombie film finally has a real honest to God title, and it’s Survival of the Dead. Which is actually a very neat, very multi-layered title that evokes a lot of possibilities.
If you want to be the first to see it, you best be at the Toronto Film Festival’s Midnight Madness program, as that’s where the film will be premiering. Midnight Madness spotlights ten of the best new horror films from around the world.
Survival of the Dead is, according to the press release I just got, about a war-weary band of soldiers who are lured to a remote island that promises to
be the last paradise on earth, only to discover that even here there is no
escape from the appetites of either the living or the dead. I’m looking forward to the first reviews from Toronto; here’s hoping that Survival of the Dead is a good bit better than Diary of the Dead.
