Until now William Shakespeare has had a stranglehold on park-based theatrical productions. But no more – now Gene Roddenberry is getting in on the action with ‘Trek in the Park,’ a wonderfully bonkers event happening in Portland this weekend and the next two weekends.
‘Trek in the Park’ has local actors putting on episodes of the original Star Trek series using only costumes, minimal props, a synth and their utter lack of self-awareness and shame. From the video below it looks like they’re doing Amok Time, the second season episode where Spock gets homicidally horny.
And yes, this was covered in a real Portland paper; the video below is not from The Onion. You can see ‘Trek in the Park’ in Portland’s Woodlawn Park Ampitheater tonight and the next two weekends.
