Everyone’s excited for Inglorious Basterds, but there’s another movie on the way about Nazi-killing freedom fighters on the way!
Flame & Citron is the true story of two legendary Danish men who fought a dirty war to cleanse their homeland from Nazis.
Based on true events and developed from eyewitness accounts during World War II, Ole Christian Madsen’s political thriller FLAME & CITRON is an ultra-stylized and remarkable spy noir about the murky moral complexities of wartime. Copenhagen, 1944. World War II is entering its final stretch in Europe. Denmark is occupied by Nazi Germany. Two resistance fighters nicknamed Flame (Thure Lindhart) and Citron (Mads Mikkelsen – CASINO ROYALE) become heroes of the underground dealing violently with traitors to their cause. When the pair is sent to execute Flame’s lover Ketty (Stine Stengade), the line between ally and enemy is blurred forcing them to determine their own orders which starts with killing the much hated and feared chief of the Gestapo – Karl Heinz Hoffman (Christian Berkel).
Former Dogme 95 filmmaker Ole Christian Madsen somehow made this (the most expensive Danish film yet made!) and it became quite a hit last year, playing at the Cannes and Toronto film fests. Check out the trailer-
