The hospitals of Amsterdam have emptied out, as no one there is sick any longer. James Cameron brought footage from his masterwork Avatar to that city’s Cinema Expo and suddenly the blind could see. And what they saw was unlike anything else anyone had ever seen before. Check out this image, captured at the Avatar afterparty:
Good God. That looks quite unlike anything I’ve ever seen, except perhaps in a platformer video game. But those game designers were obviously prophets for The Cameron. Check out more images from the party at MarketSaw.
IESB got a report from someone in attendance. Here’s an excerpt:
The audience got to see several finished scenes with Jake’s [Sam Worthington] Avatar walking around on the beautiful Pandora and fighting all kinds of exotic creatures. In one of the scenes Jake and Neytiri walk in the jungle at night. Flowers, trees and the earth glow in the dark. The last scene is the battle between the humans and the Na’Vi. Because it’s unfinished, it consisted of crude 3-D scenes, like out of a video game. It makes me want to create a time machine like Cartman from South Park, so that I don’t have to wait till the 18th of December to watch the finished movie. If it’s anything like the scenes I saw, it’s going to be one of the best movies of the decade.
The Hollywood Reporter says that about 24 minutes of the film were shown, most of them from the first third. I imagine that some of this stuff will be shown at Comic Con next month as well. Hopefully real images will start coming out of the glorious geniuses at Fox marketing, and we can bring them to children’s hospitals and begin the real work of Avatar – bringing peace, health and joy to this world.
While Cameron was at the presentation he would not comment on rumors that he was rushing a cut of the film to be completed and then airdropped into Iran to aid the protesters.
