I say ‘Golden age,’ you say ‘Of indie sci-fi.’
Yeah, it’s a good time to be a science fiction fan, as the genre is being reclaimed from its big budget ghetto. There are all sorts of small, interesting science fiction films being made these days, and now a new one – Offline – shows that indie scifi can look just as cool as the stuff from the big boys. Made on a shoestring budget, Offline is set in a dystopian future where humanity is narcotized by mass media and where Maro, once a rebel, has been brainwashed by the authorities and turned into a perfect killing machine. But now he’s beginning to figure out that something is wrong and is trying to find his identity and to take down the system that enslaved him. And do it in cool looking ways.
