Kurt Wimmer, the director of Equilibrium and Ultraviolet, has signed on to script the remake of Total Recall. Yeah, a remake of Total Recall. Not, as far as I can tell, a re-adaptation of Philip K Dick’s We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, upon which Total Recall was, in some small but legally binding way, based.
The film is being produced by Neil Moritz, which means it’ll likely be a piece of shit (no joke. Check out his filmography), but even if it were good it would never match the sheer demented majesty of Paul Verhoeven’s brilliant original.
Wimmer’s directorial career seems to have been back-burnered in recent years. Perhaps Total Recall could give him a chance to break out the old gun fu again. Hopefully not.
