What a coinkydink. I was just watching Clash of the Titans in hi-def this morning* and now there’s new casting for the remake, which is being helmed by Incredible Hulk director Louis Letterier.
According to Empire Online, Bond girl Gemma Arterton (the one who got Goldfingered in oil in Quantum of Solace and who was, for my money, the foxiest girl in the film), will be starring alongside Sam Worthington, but she won’t be playing Andromeda, the love interest from the original. Instead she’s playing Io.
“My part is… the coolest part,” she laughed. “Io’s not in the
original film. Perseus falls in love with her and then [CENSORED
FOR TINY SPOILER]. It’s a really great part.”
I didn’t put that censored thing in there. It’s kind of driving me nuts, to be honest. If it’s a tiny spoiler, let me decide if I want to be spoiled!
Arterton says that she loves the script, which apparently is more about Perseus coming to terms with who he is. “Obviously the story is the story, but it’s much more about Perseus’
mission, and how he deals with being the son of Zeus, and things like
that, so it feels a little more about him, and about the issues around
that.”
Sort of snooze? I think Perseus is bad ass enough that he’s willing to jump right into his Kraken-killing destiny.
* verdict: the movie, which has a wonderfully loose structure and is delightfully cheesy and unabashedly aimed at 13 year old boys, holds up, but the optical effects look like shit in HD.
