According to Production Weekly the Let the Right One In remake that no one asked for will begin shooting in May. Matt Reeves of Cloverfield fame will direct from his own script. I don’t think he’s a bad director (although with only this and The Pallbearer under his belt, who knows for sure) but considering that the story has already been done to perfection so recently, the big question is why he would even bother trying his hand at this? There’s absolutely nothing you can add to it that would make it a stronger film.
Devin agrees with this. The original director Tomas Alfredson agrees. Even the writer of the novel it’s based on (John Ajvide Lindqvist) told AICN that “Tomas’ film is the definitive film, it is, I can’t imagine how anything would be better.”
So how could any self-respecting person keep going with it?
The remake will be titled Let Me In. No cast has been announced yet, but we’ll let you know when we do. Watch them cast Dakota Fanning as Eli and leave out any of the little allusions in the film.
In other, happier news- we’re only a week away from when Let the Right One In finally hits Dvd and Blu-ray. On March 10th I’m planning on gathering all of my friends to watch it (for the fourth time!) and you should plan on picking it up too. I can’t stress how incredible this film is, and it’s been my pleasure to be able to see it so many times and find how rewatchable it is. Depsite being a very slow and thoughtful film there’s just so much to it, so many little touches that you’ll miss the first time that add more to the experience when you notice them. Don’t let this one pass you by.
