There hasn’t been much information about Drew Goddard’s Cabin in the Woods, which is supposed to begin filming this March. Both Goddard and Joss Whedon, who wrote the script together, have been pretty tight-lipped about the horror film.
In speaking with iF Magazine, co-writer Joss Whedon offered little more than a reminder that the project exists but the film has been shrouded in so much secrecy that it is nice to know everything is moving along since Joss Whedon projects have a way of disappearing rather suddenly.
“Ultimately it’s my and Drew’s take on the classic horror movie,” says Whedon. “Which means it’s a classic horror movie, but also means we have something specific to say about it and a different way of saying it than we’ve seen before. I think afterwards people will love it so much there will be no more need for movies. They will want to watch this movie over and over again.”
That’s what they said about Hook, buddy! But even that shit got stale… eventually. Whedon is one of the few people where I think it is worth getting excited when you hear them throw around phrases like “classic horror movie” and talks about having “something specific to say” and “a different way of saying it.” More information might surface in the next few weeks as Whedon makes the rounds to promote his new Fox series, Dollhouse. And then even more information might surface when Fox officially cans his ass and pulls the plug on the show, which will probably be amazing. MGM is targeting a February 5, 2010 release date for Cabin in the Woods.
