Fresh off of his success from “Ram Jamming” his opponents in the acclaimed The Wrestler, ‘ole craggy face himself, Mickey Rourke, has agreed to star in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Broken Horses.
Chopra is a filmmaking legend in his native India, and while he’s had some artistic success over here (with such films as An Encounter With Faces, and Parinda) he is still an unknown commodity to the Hollywood studios.
Hopefully all of that is about to change.
Broken Horses is to be Chopra’s Hollywood directorial debut, and he has managed to acquire the excellent skills of Mr. Rourke as the lead in what is being described as a gangster picture. Writers Abhijat Joshi and Jason Richman are doing the screenplay based on an original idea by Chopra, and the production is hoping to shoot in New Mexico and New York.
The Mick is perfect for a gangster film, what with his shifting mannerisms and grainy voice, and I for one am looking forward to whatever becomes of this collaboration!
