I like spoilers. I know there are a lot of folks who don’t, and can get downright aggressive if someone is divulging information about a film/tvshow that they love to watch, and want to go in “fresh”.
There has been the odd time where I avoid spoilers, like when I wanted to go into Spider-Man 2 without knowing one bit of it. Although for the 3rd one I knew quite a bit, but nothing prepared me for the horrendous dance number. That was a shock I didn’t know anything about. This past friday I saw X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and it was so low on my radar of anticipated movies that I actually didn’t know any of the movie at all. Save for the bits and characters that are culled directly from the comics.
Spoilers to me enhance the experience. They make me want to see the movie or tv show even more since I know about it. I’m a big fan of Lost. A really big fan. There’s a spoiler site that I go to EVERY DAY to find out new tidbits. I’ve known about many of the latest revelations for quite some time, but that never took away from the reveals. It just made me speculate more, and anticipate actually SEEING how it was going to pan out.
Spoilers can also prepare for something that is going to be less than satisfying. Knowing all the details about a potentially crappy movie can cushion the blow, and even lower expectations and provide for an at least “ok” experience. That is one of the main things that helps me through most of the films I watch that I’m not crazy about, yet don’t outright hate.
That said, if there’s a movie I want to see I’ll be seeking out the spoilers. I will not however just be blurting out information to anyone. Got to respect their wishes.
