I know that working in English was the least of Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s problems when making Alien: Resurrection, but the final result of that project left me less than thrilled about the idea of the Delicatessen  director tackling an adaptation of The Life of Pi. His withdrawal was a good move, I think, and now he’s ready to return with a French feature called Micmacs A Tire Larigot, or, for the sake of simplicity, just WTF?

The film, co-written by Jeunet, is a satire targeting the world arms trade, and stars Dany Boon and Jeunet regular Dominique Pinchon. What that actually means isn’t brought to light by the current production notes, which include the following:

Is it better to live with a bullet lodged in your brain, even if it
means you might drop dead any time? Or would you rather have the bullet
taken out and live the rest of your life as a vegetable? Are zebras
white with black stripes or black with white stripes? Is scrap metal
worth more than landmines? Can you get drunk from eating waffles? Can a
woman fit inside a refrigerator? What’s the human cannonball world
record?

A comedy in the vein of Delicatessen and Amélie.

Twitch has a small gallery of photos, like the one above. If I was being honest I’d say that Delicatessen is the only Jeunet film I really like from top to bottom. So I’m hoping this uses that as a jumping-off point, maybe with a little of the first half of Lord of War mixed in. I can’t believe I actually want to see anyone make a movie that is vaguely like a recent Nic Cage film, but there you go.
