They may not have succeeded in bumping off Hitler, but Tom Cruise and Chris McQuarrie apparently aren’t letting that get them down. Variety’s Michael Fleming reports that the duo are already planning three potential future projects including Flying Tigers, which is an account of a volunteer squadron formed to help the Chinese combat the Japanese prior to the U.S. entry into World War II. Another project is The Champions, which McQuarrie is penning and will produce with Guillermo Del Toro for United Artists, about a group of government agents rescued from a plane crash in the Himalayas by an advanced civilzation and endowed with superhuman powers.Possibly the most likely project, however, is The Tourist, which would be a remake of the 2005 spy thriller, Anthony Zimmer, to be directed by Bharat Nalluri, recently of the TV series, Hustle, and Rob Thomas’ upcoming Cupid reboot. Charlize Theron is a potential co-star. McQuarrie also is slated to do write, produce and direct The Stanford Prison Experiment, about a 1971 college psychological experiment gone wrong, with Channing Tatum. Kieran Culkin, Ryan Phillippe and Giovani Ribisi attached. Cruise meanwhile, has several plates spinning as always, including the Allan Loeb-scripted Men for director Todd Phillips.
