It looks like Terrence Howard isn’t the only actor getting replaced in Iron Man 2. According to Latino Review, the thespian who played Tony Stark’s dead dad Howard (in basically some photos, right? I haven’t seen Iron Man since it hit theaters, but I don’t remember Howard having any real screen time) is getting shitcanned in favor of Tim Robbins.
Apparently there are some important flashbacks in the film that set up the Captain America and The Avengers films. These flashbacks will have Howard Stark in some way involved in the super soldier program that created Cap. My guess: he creates the alloy in Captain America’s mighty shield.
This is a good time to point out that Marvel’s basing of its characters in WWII is getting weird these days. Magneto was in a concentration camp, so he’s a supervillain in his 70s or 80s now. I thought the guy was an old fucker in the 1980s when he was all over Chris Claremont’s comics, and now he’s just plain geriatric. For Howard Stark to be Tim Robbins’ age in WWII, he’d have to be in his 60s when Tony was born. That’s not impossible, but it’s a heck of a thing, especially if Obadiah Stane had him killed. Why not just wait the dude out? (Caveat: again, I haven’t seen the movie in 7 months. I may be misremembering. I am sure you will politely correct me in the Comments)
Meanwhile, Latino Review also reveals that Hawkeye and the Black Widow play large roles in the film. I would think that Henry Pym would be the guy who needs to get introduced ASAP, but Black Widow’s a good character. I guess this means Olga Kurylenko has another job.
