Remember when Alex Proyas was a director you cared about? Regardless of your feelings about The Crow and Dark City, it’s fair to say that there was a strong visual style driving those films. This guy was going to be a force to be reckoned with when it came to blending popcorn entertainment with fantastic artistic direction.
Then he made I, Robot. If you haven’t seen that bastardization of Isaac Asimov’s universe and ideas, do yourself a favor and don’t. It’s a painful wannabe Minority Report. After a short stint in Director Jail, Proyas was let out to do Knowing, a film that has evaporated into the Nothingland where movies like Takers go to once they’ve finished their brief theatrical run.
After a much longer stint in Director Jail, Proyas has returned to deliver a film that will certainly send him to the Director’s Gas Chamber: Gods of Egypt. All we have to go on are some character posters that have been released, but man… Just look at these!
There are more, but you get the idea. And there are even more real actors in this thing! Geoffrey Rush (Green Lantern) and Rufus Sewell (The Tourist) are gonna be garish Egyptina gods as well. Forget the complaints about a whitewashed cast (don’t actually forget them, but just forget them for the time being) because this movie is going to be a blast to watch. It’s coming out in the dumping month of February, the same time when last year’s Jupiter Ascending took the world by storm. Gods of Egypt will at least be as laugh-inducing as Jupiter Ascending.
I cannot wait for the first trailer to come out. I promise to update you when it does.
