THE INCREDIBLE HULK (2008)

(Three-Disc Special Edition)
d. Louis Leterrier
Universal Studios

Special Features

  • “An exclusive, never-before-seen alternate opening”
  • A making-of that has interviews with star Edward Norton, director
Louis Leterrier, and producers Avi Arad, Kevin Feige, and Gale Anne
Hurd, and the entire cast and crew. “The documentary covers the film’s
innovative take on the character, look and storyline, as well as the
casting process, production, and profile of director Louis Leterrier.”
  • The visual effects featurette “Becoming the Hulk”.
  • A parallel “Becoming the Abomination”
  • “Anatomy of a Hulk Out”, analysis of three action sequences.
  • The requisite “From Comic Book to Screen”
  • Commentary with director and cast

Universal stepped up to the plate with this sequel. Oh wait, I mean reboot. No, it’s kind of a sequel. Hell, it’s got Stan Lee drinking Gamma Ray irradiated energy drink. Much was made of the studio’s tampering with the film before release date. Thankfully, the quest for more money has allowed for nearly an hour of bonus footage to be uncovered. Hell, if you squint really hard…you might make out Captain America.

The Strangers
d. Bryan Bertrino
c. Liv Tyler, Scott Speedman and Glenn Howerton

Special Features

Deleted Scenes
The Elements of Terror

Blu-ray Extra Features

  • Exclusively Higher MSRP

People in strange masks murdering young couples always make for a fun Halloween. Largely ignored by filmgoers, The Strangers hopes to make its way into your film collection on Tuesday. While it’s not for everyone, I feel that most horror fans should give it a shot. It doesn’t delve that far into the Based on a True Story horror type. It plays fast and loose with the facts and always ups the ante on the violence.

EXPELLED: No Intelligence Allowed
d. Nathan Frankowski
c. Ben Stein

Special Features

  • Inspirational Messages
  • Ben Interviews Lee Strobel
  • The Super-Trailer
  • Christian Music

Ben Stein is a hatchman that made his bones putting words in Nixon’s mouth. When it came time for Stein to chime in for the right, he dropped to his knees faster than a Yes Man in October. Questionable throughout, this documentary makes no attempt to reconcile its statements with the Truth. Give it about a decade and it’ll become a campy lookback at this era’s Moral Reich.

Kiss of the Spider-Woman
d. Hector Babenco
c. Raul Julia, William Hurt and Sonia Braga

Special Features

“Tangled Web: Making Kiss of the Spider Woman
• “The Submissive Woman’s Role”
• “Spider Woman on Broadway”
• Trivia Track
• Slide Show Commentary
• Photo Gallery
• Trailer

Homosexual friendly political films usually never win the mainstream’s attention. But, Hector Babenco struck a chord with this look into desire vs. need. Raul Julia delivers one of the unsung performances of the 1980s, while William Hurt shines in his Oscar winning role. The colors of the Latin-American sets never shown brighter than they do on this exclusive Blu-Ray release.

The Lazarus Project
d. John Glenn
c. Paul Walker, Shawn Hatosy and Linda Cardellini

“The Lazarus Project” is one of those Direct-to-DVD films that almost approaches greatness. Trying to play as a riff on “Shock Corridor”, the film centers around a former criminal as he works at a psych hospital. Discovering more than meets the eye, the ex-con Ben (Paul Walker) has to fight to keep his sanity.

CRITERION

Criterion
will be releasing Costa-Gravas’ “Missing” this Tuesday. The 1982
underrated gem is the home of a powerhouse performance from Sissy
Spacek. Largely forgotten in the huge cache of 80s politico movies,
“Missing” offers up a uniquely human touch on the Latin-American
turmoil of the 70s/80s.
