Wes Craven and Tim Burton will join a short list of iconic artists honored by a relatively young awards ceremony as they receive discretionary awards at Spike’s Scream 2008.
In the past, the annual awards show, now in its third year, has honored artists like musicians Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osbourne with the Rock Immortal Award, which has become affectionately known as “Hell’s Dildo.” In addition to music legends, writer Neil Gaiman was given the Icon Award last year and the filmmaking duo of Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino were awarded the Mastermind Award in 2006.
Now, Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street) and Tim Burton (Beetlejuice, Sweeney Todd) will join some elite company. At this year’s show, Craven will be given the Scream Mastermind Award and Burton will be the recipient of the Scream Immortal Award.
The show, which will air October 21 at 9:00 pm on Spike TV, also features appearances by several genre favorites including Guillermo del Toro (Blade II, Pan’s Labyrinth), Rob Zombie (The Devil’s Rejects, Halloween), Julie Benz (Dexter, Angel), and Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw III, Repo! The Genetic Opera).
