Ed Norton doesn’t like the guys at Marvel, it seems. Talking to MTV News this week he said, “The minds of Marvel are sometimes opaque… I
won’t say [they’re] obtuse, but I don’t have any idea what they want to
do.”
He says that they haven’t talked to him about a sequel to The Incredible Hulk or about showing up in a movie version of The Avengers… which he’s skeptical about anyway. “They’ve got this notion of collecting the Marvel characters. Who knows where they’ll go?”
It’s funny hearing this from him after talking to Favreau this week. It’s obvious that while Favreau had his moments with Marvel as his new deal was negotiated, he’s working with them to plan and plot the future of this new cinematic universe. But who is surprised that Norton and Marvel are on the outs? Word is that every single scene that Norton wrote for The Incredible Hulk will be featured on the film’s DVD in the deleted scenes section. As is often the case, Norton butted heads with the powers that be, and since the film didn’t change anybody’s lives or stock portfolios, it’s likely that Marvel would just rather not deal with him again. And I’m sure the feeling is totally mutual.
And who cares? I’d so much rather see Norton pursuing meatier roles rather than wait around to turn into CGI in a team-up film.
