“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” says X-Files creator Chris Carter in a press release issued today. The release confirms that The X-Files will return as a six-episode “event series” on Fox, with production set to begin this summer. Series stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are confirmed to return.
“The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories,” adds Carter. Interesting phrasing… six stories. Not one story (though that’s sure to happen over the course of the six). There’s been some discussion on the boards as to what would work better — some monster-of-the-week episodes, a True Detective style event with one major story, or a healthy blend of the two. I’m mostly a monster-of-the-week guy (that Flukeman is a personal favorite) but the show needs a good wrap-up and course correction after the whimpers of the final season and the dismal I Want to Believe.
