Just read the headline and sub-heading of this piece one more time (for those who don’t see the sub-heading on the main page, it’s “And Jason Momoa is the cannibal.”), and let it sink in. This is a thing that is actually happening.
There is a force of Good in this world, and the form it has chosen to take today is called The Bad Batch. This immaculately conceived piece of cinema will be brought to us by Ana Lily Amirpour, whose feature debut A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night caused all the exciting kind of buzz you hope to hear about an Iranian vampire western. Now she’s turned her creative energy towards the story of Miami Man (Momoa), the Soylent Green enthusiast at the center of this tale who may or may not be dining on John Wick and Ace Ventura at some point. Want some more rapturous tidbits of info? Reeves’ character is called The Dream and Carrey’s is called The Hermit.
According to TheWrap, The Bad Batch is “a post-apocalyptic tale set in a Texas wasteland where a community of cannibals reside.” If that’s not enough to get you to pre-order your tickets now, it’s also called “a love story about a cannibal […] and his food.”
If this film somehow manages to tie itself into Gremlins 2: The New Batch, I’m ready to declare it the reason that cinema was invented.
