More announcements from the Disney shareholders call, and this one was so obvious that I could have written and posted this article two weeks ago. The mega blockbuster Frozen (the Adam Green movie is better) will be getting a sequel. Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck will return to develop the film, and Josh Gad has been confirmed to play everyone’s favorite snowman, Olaf.
Frozen is one of those movies I feel bad about saying I didn’t like it. It’s progressive, subversive and looks great, but the actual story and pacing were a relentless drudgery for me. I was bored out of my mind when I watched it. The biggest crime was that the songs were uniformly weak. I didn’t walk away humming a single one, and that’s a cardinal crime for my Disney experience (when the movie has songs, of course).
But, I know I’m in the minority here, and the strides that the film makes for female representation (especially in a Disney movie) can’t be ignored, so here’s hoping the sequel is more engaging as a story for me than its predecessor.
