There have been a few attempts since Rob Zombie’s slightly less heinous Halloween 2 to get the franchise going again. We thought for a while that Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer were gonna do something called Halloween 3D, but that fell through.
But The Shape refuses to stay dead, and the writers working on his inevitable return are none other than Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, who wrote Feast, The Collector, and all those Saw movies that James Wan and Leigh Whannell didn’t. According to Bloody Disgusting, the film “is not a remake, not a reboot, nor is it a re-imagining.” BD also notes that the film “WON’T follow” the Zombie remake films, and it won’t be in 3D. Malek Akkad and Matthew Stein are producing it, which is completely expected with a Halloween film.
Whatever the hell this ends up being, I still think people will find a way to call it a “reboot”, which makes my fucking skin crawl. Are Melton and Dunstan the guys for the job?
