I don’t remember when or how I saw the original Tremors (which means it was probably late at night on cable or via a friend’s laserdisc) but the giant worm movie immediately became a perennial pleasure. Straightforward, fun and as unpretentious as they come, the thing was a nicely done little monster movie, and being wholly unexpected just made it a little better. I’ve never seen any of the DTV sequels or the Sci-Fi channel series, but I still got interested when I read (via Bloody Disgusting) that the original team was back together to make a new horror flick.
Writers Brent Maddock and S.S Wilson and director Ron Underwood are working with producer Nancy Roberts on Night Crew, “a fast-moving monster tale full of quirky characters, scary moments, and laugh-out-loud humor, but this time in an urban setting.” None of the individuals have done anything that lit my fire since the early ’90s (Maddock and Wilson wrote Wild Wild West and rewrote Smokey & the Bandit and their own Short Circuit, and Underwood directed Usher’s In the Mix) but when you put them all together and say ‘monsters’ I completely forget those little hiccups.
