According to Deadline, Jessica Chastain and Kristen Wiig are in early talks for supporting roles in Ridley’s Scott’s upcoming adaptation of Andy Weir’s novel The Martian. It looks like Chastain is closer to nabbing her intended role, but let’s not count our chickens before they hatch, mmkay?
All that aside, I’m rooting for these two. I think Kristen Wiig would fit right in to this astronaut thriller, oddly enough. It’s also nice to imagine that she’ll be in a movie that’s not lit like an Apatow film.
If all goes right, Wiig and Chastain will be joining Matt Damon as his character attempts to survive on the harsh surface of Mars. Inexplicably I forgot that Drew Goddard was originally attached to direct this, and with any luck he’ll still be credited as screenwriter. A Drew Goddard screenplay directed by Ridley Scott sounds like a really good thing to me, but I’m fairly certain we’ll get more writers in the mix.
