From James Gunn’s Facebook page:
#gotgpicoftheday Michael Rooker onset as Yondu. You’ll be seeing more of him soon. Yondu was not in the original script. I added him and wrote the role specifically for Rooker. I wasn’t sure Marvel was going to go for either idea, so I was relieved when they responded enthusiastically to both.
I know, this is another picture of a shadow/silhouette functioning as news. I know. But I like this a lot more than the T-rex pic from Jurassic World if only because it relays the admiration that James Gunn rightly has for his frequent collaborator, Michael Rooker. Rooker will be playing the blue-skinned, mowhawked Yondu Udonta, a founding member of the original Guardians of the Galaxy line-up (there have been a few) and if you really want to spoil yourself on the character’s look, you can. Personally, I wish I could un-see some of the set pictures of Rooker as Yondu, if only because I’m sure Gunn has another loving introductory shot planned for the film. In the meantime, if this is your first look at the character, keep it that way.
