The Hollywood Reporter and several other outlets broke the news this evening: Jupiter Ascending, weeks away from its July release, has been pushed back to Februrary 2015.

We’re hearing that the delay is mostly due unfinished visual effects. Here’s what Warner Bros’ Domestic distribution chief Dan Fellman had to say:

“With the July release date, they were just not going to make it on time,” he added. “A lot of the issue for us was getting it ready for the international release, since the foreign territories need additional time.”

To make room for the Wachowski-helmed tentpole, Warner Bros has yanked the Liam Neeson/Joel Kinnaman vehicle Run All Night from its original February date, and hasn’t yet found a home for it.

While I am disappointed that I won’t get to see the film next month, Warner Bros has done a terrible job marketing the film, probably because they weren’t sure if they could make their release date. Let’s hope they step up the marketing because I want this flick to make some money. The Wachowskis need a solid win after the mixed reaction to Cloud Atlas.
