The last film in Woody Allen’s series of sabbatical pictures is Vicky Cristina Barcelona, about two American tourists (Scarlett Johansson and Rebecca Hall) who get into a decidedly European romantic involvement with Javier Bardem. Things become difficult when Bardem’s wife, Penelope Cruz, shows up. Which all sounds to me like an updated version of a middling Euro sex comedy, with better looking people who take off a lot fewer clothes.
Cinematical has the film’s exclusive poster premiere, and I like it well enough. There’s some drama thanks to the artful framing (or accidental; I think I’ve taken this picture a couple of times) and the oblique angle on a Big Heads image.
But every time I look at this I think Bardem is Colin Farrell and I wonder what’s wrong with me.
