dark_souls_2We here at MCP have made no bones about our rabid anticipation of Dark Souls II. Now we’re at fever pitch following Namco Bandai’s announcement that comedian Peter Serafinowicz has joined the voice cast, playing a character called Mild-Mannered Pate. The press release states that this ‘enigmatic character’ may have some kind of tutorial-related role, teaching the player ‘a few tricks of his own’ in order to survive during their quest.

Serafinowicz possesses a much-celebrated set of pipes, best known for providing the voice of Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. However, his most loved work has been with Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg in Spaced and Shaun of the Dead. His self-headlined series Look Around You and The Peter Serafinowicz Show are also two of the 2000s best yet most unsung Brit comedy shows. The press release also points out that, as if the guy wasn’t already cool enough, he also happens to be a big Dark Souls fan, describing the first game thusly: “Dark Souls is the most engrossing game I’ve ever played. For me, it’s the best game of all time”.

Big words, but considering that Serafinowicz is well-known as a gamer (Along with his buddies Wright and Pegg) it’s fair to assume that he knows of which he speaks. His addition is certainly great news to gaming and comedy afficionados, and will give a welcome injection of class to this already hugely promising game, which drops for Xbox 360 and PS3 on March 11th, with the PC version arriving ‘shortly after’.

Oh, Namco Bandai. You had us at ‘We’re making a sequel to Dark Souls‘, but if you want to throw some cherries on that cake we’re not complaining one bit.
