It’s not every day you see Lemmy Kilmister’s name near the top of The Hollywood Reporter‘s collection of news headlines. But enterprising joes Greg Oliver and Wes Orshoski (Billboard writers, both) have been making a documentary about the Motorhead frontman for a while now, and they’ve started to take the thing public.
In reality, I’m not sure how they’re going to make Lemmy the subject of a feature documentary in a way that doesn’t belabor the point. Really, a ten-second YTMD loop mixing animated gifs of Lemmy singing and taking a piss in the bathroom at the Rainbow with strobe-flashing gold letters in block print that say “Fucking Awesome” would get the point across just as well.
The teaser trailer, available on the film’s website, gives away the tactic: fawning interviews, and lots of them. I’m OK with Dave Grohl talking about how Lemmy is a metric ton more legit than almost anyone else at this point, but was that C.C. DeVille? I know, L.A. connections and everything, but I don’t need a guy from Poison reinforcing anything about Lemmy, thanks.
Stick around to the end of the trailer for the joke, though. If there’s more of that in the offing, then a feature just might work.
