In the Arctic region of Northern Alaska, an oil company’s advanced team struggles to establish a drilling base that will forever alter the pristine land. After one team member is found naked and dead in the snow, an environmentalist suspects sour gases may have accidentally been released in the area, provoking hallucinations, disorientation and insanity in the group. After a shocking second fatal incident, he convinces their boss to travel with the team to a hospital for examination. However, mysterious events begin taking place, effectively trapping the group in the base as they succumb to an unknown fear.
We first found out about The Last Winter back here. The film got a lot of praise but its limited theatrical release last September didn’t exactly allow a lot of people the opportunity to check it out. The film also took its sweet time getting out on dvd. It’s available to rent at Blockbuster right now (if you somehow chose it over Netflix), but on July 22 the movie will hit stores. Pretty good cover, despite the blurb. It’s coming to dvd in a neat little package that’s worth the wait, too. Not only will it have a director’s commentary, but a feature-length making-of documentary. Good stuff. Let’s see if the director of Wendigo and Habit really did make another creepy film for us all…
