Simogo, the team behind the beautifully haunting Year Walk, has unveiled their newest iOS game. DEVICE 6 is a surreal and cerebral journey into a mystery that seems lifted directly from the minds of Ian Fleming, John le Carré, Stieg Larsson and Alfred Hitchcock. Little is known about the full narrative other than the player wakes up in a castle on a remote island and things may not be as they seem.
It all sounds very similar to gaming classics like Myst and D and will hopefully turn out to be just as memorable. The developers have cited Franz Kafka, Agatha Christie, David Cronenberg and videogames like Professor Layton and Zelda as influences for the new game. With inspiration like that and a great team of creators on board, it’s hard to foresee that this will be anything but amazing. Here is the official synopsis via Simogo:
A surreal thriller in which the written word is your map, as well as your narrator.
DEVICE 6 plays with the conventions of games and literature, entwines story with geography and blends puzzle and novella, to draw players into an intriguing mystery of technology and neuroscience.
Anna wakes up in a castle on a remote island, with little recollection of how she got there. All she remembers is an unusually unpleasant doll…
Why are there two identical castles on the island? Who is the mysterious man in the bowler hat? And above all, what is the purpose of the tests Anna is put through?
DEVICE 6 launches on iOS in late 2013.
Year Walk was an incredible game that submerged players into a cold and nightmarish world of folklore and fantasy. The game was a joy to play and contained some of the most effective moments of dread and terror contained in a mobile app. The gameplay was excellent and the design was beautifully realized. Even the soundtrack was brilliant. Simogo produces great work and DEVICE 6 looks like it will definitely hit the sweet spot for fans of stylish detective stories and point and click mystery games. Check out the enigmatic and intriguing teaser below to get a feel of what this is all about.
