Normally, it’d be a bummer to learn that Will Arnett is once again squandering his boundless talent in a lame comedy, but his involvement in the Mark Steven Johnson romantic comedy When in Rome (so he is still directing) comes as something of a relief. For a while there, it seemed like the several-superlatives-beyond-astounding Kristen Bell was going to spend the entire shoot beset by douchebags.
Of course, it’s possible that Johnson will shoot out Arnett in less than a week, so it’s good to know that Bell will also have non-obnoxious company in Angelica Huston and Josh Duhamel (nice guy despite being unreasonably handsome). Arnett will play an Italian artist who pursues the single Bell back to the states after she snatches his lucky coin from the Trevi Fountain. Jon Heder, Dax Shepard and, most probably, Duhamel will round out the group of suitors magically compelled to court Bell due to her “love-starved” theft. Guess it’s the complete reverse of Buster Keaton’s Seven Chances (which was already remade, badly, as The Bachelor).
When in Rome will begin shooting next month. I have no idea what a Mark Steven Johnson romantic comedy is going to look like, and I’m only looking forward to finding out because of the gal to your right. She ain’t quite David Paymer, but she’ll do.
