Day Twelve – Aliens

If you learn one thing today it’s how to say “aliens” in Polish. Orcy! In English it means “overrated screenwriter”. The Polish have brought the world many things like Polish hats and Polish garage door openers but their finest export by far has been their movie posters, bizarre and oftentimes jaw-dropping interpretations of films from all over the world. Sometimes literal examinations of their source but sometimes absolutely batshit pieces of art that almost take on a life of their own. Over the next fifteen weekdays I’ll be sharing some of the best examples of how these creative necromancers interpret American cinema. Aliens is one of the best action/adventure films ever made and by far the only thing Carrie Henn ever did. When this film came out me and my friends (one of which who became a writer for Battlestar Galactica) got home after seeing it and were elated. We got our bikes and played Aliens. The lack of bicycles in the movie had no bearing on the weeks of entertainment we got from dodging Xenomorphs and ultimately deciding one of us was an android and beating the shit out of him. That’s basically the plot of the film, right? Judging from the Polish poster, anything’s possible.

What would this movie be like?

Piranha. The Eyes of Laura Mars. Brainscan. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Who is the audience for this film?

Crawford Tillinghast. Me.

What the fucking fuck is fucking fucking?

“The alien has eyes for blood!”

Tagline vs. Tagline?

“This time it’s war!” rolls off the tongue almost as good as your tongue rolling out of your head if this eyeball shooting motherfucker actually existed.

What other movies could effectively use this poster?

Van Wilder. Enchanted.

Tomorrow: Seriously, there’d have been no sequels if this were the poster!
