The path towards an expanded DC Universe on the big screen has been a slow march of rumor, armchair strategy, speculation, false claims all delivered with the same single fact that actually matters: Man Of Steel has to hit first.
When (and only when) that happens, Justice League will become a priority and it turns out Warner Bros. seems happy to confirm (with their mouths) that they’ll be sticking with Snyder if it does, as we’ve heard.
“Warner Bros.’ long-term view has been revised to embrace this new vision, just as the Dark Knight films resisted the commodification of Marvel. Whether we get a Justice League, they say, depends on MAN OF STEEL. If we do, they say, Zack Snyder will be asked to direct.”
That’s from the lastest edition of Empire, which has already brought us some new images, and now brings us some news from inside WB and some thoughts from Snyder himself.
“When you talk about superhero action movies, there is Batman of course, and I think that Chris (Nolan) laid a lot of important groundwork. And there are the Marvel movies… I don’t mean it as an insult, Iron Man and Hulk are strong superheroes, but we’ve never had a superhero movie where everyone can go, ‘Yeah, I understand the why of the whole thing.’ Superman is a character who deciphers the why of superheroes.”
The director also discusses his confidence in the film, which seems corroborated by all we’ve heard so far. It’s gotten to the point where even dividing the hyperbole by reality leaves us with the promise of a good-to-great film.
Any other new details? How about a runtime of 2.5 hours that Snyder calls the “director’s cut” and his own opinion that the 3D is merely an option, not the definitive format…
