Well there it is, from the horse’s copy of Final Draft.
This is an image Kevin Smith posted on his Facebook page this morning, confirming that the wheels have officially started turning for Clerks III, his second sequel to his very first feature film. He’s apparently davelled with the idea of doing it in another format such as a play or novel, but it appears inspiration struck him on this very special anniversary, bringing with it confirmation that it will indeed be a film. It was never not going to be a film, but Smith like to toy with the drama. I also believe this remains Smith’s decided final movie before he moves into a career of producing younger talent, though that may have changed in a conversation that I missed.
THE BEGINNING OF THE END
20 years ago today, we started shooting CLERKS.
20 years later, with no plan or provocation, I jumped out of bed at 4:20 this morning and started writing CLERKS III.
It’s been like hanging out with old friends.
And after 2 hours of tapping the keys and giggling, I have come to a conclusion…
CLERKS III will be the best film I’ll ever make.
Godspeed Mr. Smith. I never ever want movies to be intellectually lazy, emotionally clunky, or just plain bad, so my mind is open until there’s a damn good reason for it to be otherwise.
