Today we have a little trickle-down film economics going on as Django Unchained appears to have boosted the profile of a DTV-tier western Wesley Snipes shot more than five years ago. From director Andrew Goth comes Gallowwalkers, which pits Snipes against a horde of resurrected bad guys in an vaguely cool-sounding feature. I give the credit to Django, but perhaps there’s another reason this particular bloody western has been plucked from purgatory after half a decade for a cheap VOD release?
GALLOWWALKERS is the story of a mysterious gunman, Aman (Snipes), the son of a nun, who breaks her covenant with God to ensure his survival. Her break with God curses her son to be hunted by all those who die by his hand – When he takes revenge on a gang that murdered his love, the gang rises as a cursed crew of undead warriors and hunt him mercilessly, seeking their ‘dying’ revenge.
That’s not a bad premise, and the newest trailer suggests that the film might have a little visual flair along with all the blood.
I’m interested to hear some reactions to this, even if it would seem to be garbage getting cheaply recycled to VOD to cash in on the zeitgeist. The film will likely hit VOD sooner rather than later, as it has been picked up by Wreckin Hill, distributor of Dark Tide and Morgan Spurlock’s ComicCon movie.
