David Twohy was one of the reasons I started The List of Dumb on the site, because it baffles me that the intelligent and quite imaginative filmmaker isn’t near the top of the lists for films that are big and need a savvy helmer who isn’t a pile of mammal shit. Yeah, many of his films didn’t make that much money but I’d be proud to have Below and the Riddick films on my resume. Especially Terminal Velocity and The Arrival! Jesus, people. His films are a blast and most of them made their money back after all was said and done. I’m sure Below didn’t, but that’s only because of asshole studio decisions.
Twohy announced on his website [which we were pointed to by Coming Soon] that there may be another Riddick movie in our future, albeit a smaller-scale and independently financed one. Fine by me. Vin Diesel and Twohy have the sneak attack on their sides now, not at the very top of the heap and able to deliver on their terms though without the sizzle and deep pockets they’d been able to enjoy before. I’d think it’d make them hungry. More vital.
Of course, when franchises like Phantasm downsized in later installments, it hurt the impact but I doubt these guys would let that happen. More Twohy. I demand it.
