ABC’s Entertainment President Paul Lee was in Pasadena today to discuss upcoming projects for the Television Critics Association. Naturally the subject of Marvel and Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D live-action came up, to which he revealed the following.
The pilot is fast-tracked, meaning critics will be seeing it earlier than most other Fall shows in pilot phase.
- He describes the script as “great” and “very Joss,” going so far as saying the show will feature the typical Whedon mood swings from comedy to high melodrama.
- ABC entertainment president Paul Lee kicked off the network’s portion of the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour in Pasadena Thursday by declaring, “We have a lot to shout about, and we also have a lot to do.”
- The show hasn’t been ordered to series, though Lee seems confifdent, saying it could air anywhere, in any timeslot.
- “Marvel has the ability to bring the whole family.” – Insinuating the possibility of other non-S.H.I.E.L.D-affiliated characters, movie or otherwise, appearing on the show.
No way this doesn’t go to series. It’s gotten way too much ink at this point, where anything less will be viewed as failure and lack of confidence in Whedon. Disney owns Marvel and ABC, so expect S.H.I.E.L.D to be a major part of that much-touted synergy we heard about when the Mousehouse bought the comics and film giant.
