Here’s the trailer for one of next summer’s most contentious productions- Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer’s The Lone Ranger. It originates from Apple, where you can find it in HD.
Hammer doesn’t really get any lines, and Depp himself is rather minimal, but a pretty great Tom Wilkinson monologue opens everything up and promises a very expensive-looking Western world. Depp does have a moment or two –one of which is truly adorable– but overall its a promise of a Verbinski western: BIG. There’s plenty of beautiful shot design, that’s for sure.
All that said, the groan is entirely instinctual when Bonham Carter shows up on screen, ain’t it?
We don’t know much more now than we did yesterday, but I’m still very much on board. That said, where the hell are the Jack White tunes? At least cut a trailer around one of his singles or something and set the tone, even if he hasn’t actually recorded much score yet…
The film hits July 3rd, 2013.
From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, comes Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “The Lone Ranger,” a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice–taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.
