Those Farrelly brothers are not giving up on this Dumb & Dumber sequel. I’m beginning to be of the mind that perhaps it’s not such a bad thing. Especially with an Anchorman sequel already en route, it feels like prime time to revisit some other classic comedies as well*. Let’s get Landis and company back for a Trading Places sequel while we’re at it; if only to get Aykroyd to put down the Ghostbusters 3 torch he’s to have glued to his hand.
Collider mentions in a piece that Carrey’s not involved at this time. But as I reported in August, Carrey’s return is still not outside the realm of possibility. So, with that in mind, it’s reassuring that I’m still hearing the Farrelly’s script has Harry and Lloyd intact (for now). Here’s confirmation of a new script via Twitter:
“You also might be interested to know that we are almost done with the Dumb and Dumber To (sic) script. I think you’re going to like it.”
Reportedly, the sequel sees the two dolts tracking down a potential son as one of them needs a kidney replacement. I have to believe the question of which of the two actually fathered the child will come into play at some point. Although we’re then encroaching on Father’s Day territory, a Billy Crystal / Robin Williams / Sugar Ray road comedy that needs to be revisited not at all.
*Attempting to embrace optimism here.
