I really want this Kick-Ass sequel to work. A huge fan of Matthew Vaughn’s original, I won’t refuse the continued adventures of Hit Girl. Part of why the original works, is it begins grounded in reality and slowly bleeds into full-blown comic insanity – jet packs and all. So if I have any concern, it’s that I’m not sure where they can take it past jet packs. Still, if the idea is to push the madness further, you could do worse than adding Jim Carrey to your cast. Says Deadline:
… Jim Carrey is being courted by Universal to play a showy supporting role in Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall, the Jeff Wadlow-directed sequel to Matthew Vaughn’s crazy superhero movie. The character is called The Colonel, and he helps galvanize the team of misfit super heroes assembled to fight evil.
This wouldn’t be Carrey’s first foray into comics, having appeared in both The Mask and as The Riddler in Batman Forever, so perhaps third times a charm in terms of quality. Still, a sequel seems an odd jumping-on point for a star of Carrey’s caliber, and if he’s battling with the Dumb & Dumber 2 people I can’t imagine this deal being an easier one to make. So “wait and see” seems the safest approach at this stage.
